Everyday Heroes
More and more, teens are sharing their inspiring stories of triumph, struggle, and normalcy on the internet. Many teens who are affected by conditions like speech-language disorders share very candidly not only about their challenges, but also their hopes, dreams, and things they struggle with. They do this by blogs, YouTube channels, and other social media platforms. One example is http://apdgirl.blogspot.ca/, a blog by a Canadian teen about living with APD.
For this assignment students will:
1) Choose a condition they don't really understand
2) Find a social media page/channel of someone in their age group who has the condition
3) Review their publications to determine
i) What is their name? Age?
ii) How do they describe their condition?
iii) What are some of their hobbies?
iv) What else is interesting about them?
v) What do you have in common with them?
vi) What about them do you find inspiring?
4) (optional) If parents/school policy allows, use your response from number (vi) above and send a response to your favorite post that they've made.
